Berlin time
Lily Cummings, a Berlin-based American photographer, presents FOLDS, her latest project exploring the sculptural landscape of the human form. Lily turns her own flesh into a malleable material; folding, bending, and molding until it transforms into something provocative in its abstraction. Rejecting the traditional portrayal of the nude figure, undulant skin becomes topography and limbs become ridgelines and valleys. The resulting images sit somewhere between figuration and the abstract, inviting the viewer to read the body as something simultaneously ephemeral and uniquely tactile. FOLDS continues Lily’s ongoing engagement with the body as both subject and instrument, asking what remains of identity and self when the figure is abstracted into sculpture, and what new meaning emerges when flesh is reimagined as terrain. Following Bodies on Paper, the series carries forward her exploration of the diverse female form translated to print. About Lily As a photographer and printmaker, she is drawn to intimacy, connection, and the physical transformation of light through the analogue processes of film and printmaking. She studied experimental media and film direction at Emerson College in Boston. A supporter of diversity and female empowerment in both editorial and commercial media, she works between Europe and New York.
