Barro Negro in central Athens is an agave focused bar that treats tequila and mezcal with the kind of depth you usually only find in specialist cities. It is built as a love letter to modern Mexico, from the pottery inspired identity to the way the team talks you through regions, producers, and styles without turning it into a lecture.

Founded by George Kavaklis and Stelios Papadopoulos and opened in 2019, it has become one of the city’s modern institutions, landing in the World’s 50 Best Bars top 100 for five consecutive years and reaching No. 62 in 2025. The menu leans into Margaritas and Palomas, plus house cocktails that stay bold and savoury, and there is enough food around the drinks to keep the night moving.
